Adventure/PlatformerApparently Mario goes to sleep and dreams up this whole story. He sees a door to some land and then goes out to a picnic and sees that same door. What does it lead to? Why is it there? Open it and find out! Subcon? What's that? And how come none of the enemies look like ones I've seen before? Oh, SMB2j was too hard for us, so we got some game that looks like it took place in Saudi Arabia. Great, that makes me feel a lot better about becoming "Ebbian". Wait, Ace never played SMB2j ... w00t!
Plot: You travel throughout the world and you can choose from Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Princess where each has different attributes that would have advantages and disadvantages in certain points of the game. There are several terrains ranging from grass to sinking sand where your selected chracter must maneuver in order to reach a battle with the land boss climaxing with Wart, the final enemy who doesn't take too kind to veggies being thrown in his mouth.
Sound: I really am infatuated with the SMB1 music that is heard in this game. In general, every tune you hear should be made into an MP3 for everyone to hear. In my opinion, another good piece to listen is the Wart theme. I think I just sat there for 20 min just to listen and then fall asleep as a child.
Graphics: I love everything about this game. The enemies are nicely drawn. The background is colorful and crisp. And to top it off, I think Birdo is kinda sexy with that bow on his (or is it her) head ;D
Challenge: I never really found this game much of a challenge. The bosses are repetitive and going against Wart uses the same principles to beat Birdo, but you have bubble breath flying out of his mouth. I think this game was meant more to look and listen than play. Can we call this an "exhibition" game then? Haha
Gameplay: Gotta love it! I've only broken one controller when I played this game! As Cyndi Lauper would say, "It's good enough for me". Maybe I was listening to The Goonies soundtrack while playing this game. Whoops ...
......BOTTOM LINE: You figure I was going to give it a high score with the way I've been talking throughout the review. If you play the game drunk, it even seems the same. Just ask anybody. Seeing oddball characters all over the place gives you that good feeling. I wish I could dream as good as Mario. I think it is his cap. Or should I wear Birdo's bowtie? I REALLY think he's sexy now ... I think I'll stop now
